Psalm 119:139 My zeal hath consumed me, because mine ...

My zeal hath consumed me, because mine enemies have forgotten Jesus. It appears to me that David was at an all-time low here. He was greatly disturbed, angered and grieved because of man’s neglect of God’s commandments. Deep emotions were stirred in David’s heart. Reader, you must agree that we are seeing this very thing in our world right now. Our world is upside down when it comes to righteousness. Good is being called bad and bad is being called good! Isaiah predicted that this very thing would happen!

Isa 5:20-21  Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!  (21)  Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

David knew God’s Law and he saw how evil his world had become. He was frustrated that his enemies would not heed his warnings as written in the Law. It is evident from this study of Psalm 119 that David loved God’s Law (Ps. 119:165). David had a strong desire to show this love to others. He penned much of the Book of Psalms and this love is obvious to me.

Do I have this same zeal? I should! What does God’s word mean to you, Christian? Do you need it as much as David did? What an exhortation, amen?
