~Galatians 2:7-8 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter; (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)

It doesn’t take but a few minutes in Galatians to see that Paul was the Apostle to the Gentiles and not Peter. I was raised Roman Catholic and was taught that Peter was the first pope. When one reads the Scriptures, one sees in today’s text that Peter was called to be the apostle to the Jews, not the Gentiles.  There are three more verses where Paul confirms who he was:

~Romans 11:13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:

~1 Timothy 2:7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.

~2 Timothy 1:11 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.

Just one doubt should cause a catholic to wonder what else is in the Scriptures that is contrary to what they’ve been taught!  Sadly, like the Jews, catholics would rather trust the traditions of the catholic church, the words of their church fathers and current church doctrine over what the Bible teaches.  🙁

This is just a gentle prod to whomever is reading today and has been searching!  It doesn’t matter whether one is a catholic, protestant, mormon, Jew, etc. Isn’t it better to believe God rather than a person? Forget denominations right now … it is God who will judge in the end, not being part of a certain religion. I’m not asking anyone to change religions, in case you’re wondering. I simply desire that you search the Scriptures whether these things be so (John 5:39)! On judgment day, no one will be there to hold your hand when you stand before Jesus Christ and He asks you why He should let you into His Heaven.

Peter, himself, said to obey God and not man!

~Acts 5:29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

Think for yourself, reader, instead of relying on someone else to determine the most important decision of your life! Where you spend eternity is not something that is best left in someone else’s hands! Eternity is a LONG time to mourn a wrong decision!

~Romans 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
~Romans 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
~Romans 1:29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
~Romans 1:30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
~Romans 1:31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

I doubt Paul was a popular teacher at the time that he wrote this letter to the Romans. How much more unpopular he would be today!

The devil has surely had his way with this world and we are living in the times when Paul’s comments are ever more true. I look at the sins that Paul points out in today’s text. Let’s modernize what he lists:

  • Men leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another (verse 27) – how can one be neutral on the sin of homosexuality? God is still on His Throne and still considers this sin!
  • Unrighteousness (verse 29) – anything that is unholy – anything that is sin
  • Fornication (verse 29) – sex outside of marriage
  • Wickedness (verse 29) – G4189 – πονηρία – ponēria – pon-ay-ree’-ah – From G4190; depravity, that is, (specifically) malice; plural (concretely) plots, sins: – iniquity, wickedness.
  • Covetousness (verse 29) – excessively wanting what someone else has
  • Maliciousness (verse 29) – proceeding from extreme hatred
  • Full of envy (verse 29) – to feel discontent at someone else’s happiness
  • Murder (verse 29) – to kill another human being
  • Debate (verse 29) – quarrelsome
  • Deceit (verse 29) – misleading others
  • Malignity (verse 29) – deep rooted spite – extreme sinfulness
  • Whisperers (verse 29) – one who tells secrets – one who slanders secretly
  • Backbiters (verse 30) – one who slanders another who is absent
  • Haters of God (verse 30) – not so much in word but in action – hateful to God
  • Despiteful (verse 30) – full of spite – malicious
  • Proud (verse 30) – appearing above others
  • Boasters (verse 30) – one who glories ostentatiously
  • Inventors of evil things (verse 30) – a contriver of evil, bad and wicked things
  • Disobedient to parents (verse 30) – Wow! Imagine that being included in this list! Self explanatory.
  • Without understanding (verse 31) – Foolish – unintelligent
  • Covenantbreakers (verse 31) – treacherous to compacts and covenants made with others and in the sight of God
  • Without natural affection (verse 31) – hard hearted toward kindred (those related by birth or marriage)
  • Implacable (verse 31) – Irreconcilable anger
  • Unmerciful (verse 31) – Without mercy

~Romans 1:32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Paul continues to say that man commits those sins knowing the judgment of God AND they find pleasure in others who do them. What depravity!

Our world has reached this point. Sin has permeated our society to the point where it is called “good”! From times of old, the prophets proclaimed:

~Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

Our world today is trying to make homosexuality legal.  Our world today has already accepted sex outside of marriage.  Our world today has already accepted the breaking of covenants, including that of marriage.  Each of the sins listed by the Apostle Paul are not even looked upon as “all that bad”!!

What is one to do?  If one finds himself doing so, it is time to repent and turn from his wicked ways! God is still on His Throne. He is still holy. He is still the Judge and will require an account of everything done.
