Today’s Ponderings – Where Am I? – Pull Up A Chair

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

The Word tells us that we become new creatures once we are saved. However, I’ve met quite a few Christians who have grown very slowly. As well, I’ve met Christians who are “old in the faith” but in numbers only – not because they have spiritually matured.

We can only mature as Christians when we yield our sinful nature to the Holy Spirit. He is the only One who can change us; however, He won’t force this change upon us. Once we are saved, we are sealed – we are promised eternal life in Christ – and we become sons of God.

~Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also [trusted], after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

~Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

We must be led by the Spirit of God for without His leading, we continue to manifest the works of the flesh – the worldly lusts – and, therefore, we sin. However, when we follow His leading, we yield ourselves to Him and are able to resist the devil and his temptations to sin. This yielding involves us staying close to God and cleansing ourselves. (James 4:7-8) It takes action on our part, a yielding to the Holy Spirit, to becoming “new” creatures. When we listen to Him, He shows us what must be “fixed” in our spiritual lives.

1 Corinthians 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

Yield to the One who can make a change
In a cold and sinful heart.
Obey His call and submit to Him
Only then will sin depart.
