Christ in Psalm 119:117 – Pull Up A Chair

Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe: and I will have respect unto Jesus continually. Rest in Jesus! I have heard this many times in my 40+ years of salvation. With rest comes the safety from the things in life that scare me. I picture Jesus holding me in His arms and carrying me to safety during the storms of my life.

Psa 37:7  Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

1Pe 5:6-7  Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:  (7)  Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

I love Psalm 37:7 and the way the Psalmist described this rest. He tells us to wait patiently for the Lord. Why? Sometimes we tend to jump the gun and plunge forward with our own devices. But we are encouraged to wait on the Lord patiently! Consulting with God on our plans is always the right thing to do. But it cannot be a one-way conversation. We must wait patiently on Him and let Him speak to us through His word. Three times do we find the phrase “wait on the Lord” in the Scriptures.

Psa 27:14  Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

Psa 37:34  Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.

Pro 20:22  Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.

I will wait on Jesus continually and have respect for His words by keeping them and trusting that He knows what is best for me. There is great comfort and peace when I allow Him to take the reins of my life and lead the way. Oh how He loves you and me!! As a father loves a child, we can rest in the knowledge that God loves each one of us more than an earthly father possibly could!
