Christ in Psalm 119:114 – Pull Up A Chair

Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in Jesus!!!! Oh yesss! Is this one of those days, dear reader, where you feel as though you need a place to escape? Is your heart troubled? Do you need protection from the outside world and its problems? Like you, I have definitely been there! But at times like these, today’s verse tells us exactly what to do: the bible has the answer for every issue in life! We are so blessed to be able to run to the Lord through His word. He provides that hiding place and He shields us from what is bothering us. David used the term “hiding place” twice in the Book of Psalms. The other verse is:

Psa 32:7  Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.

David experienced this need to be so close to God that he knew God would provide him with a blessed sanctuary of peace. We, too, have this wonderful place where we can retreat from the cares of this world. I imagine myself alone in the woods listening to the sounds of nature. The warm rays of sunlight are shining through the branches and I feel the warmth on my face. My Saviour meets me there and sits beside me. I tell Him all about my cares and He listens to me. As I open my bible, He shows me what He wants to tell me. The Book of Psalms has truly been my shield in times like these. I know that God’s words are pure and true! I can wholly trust and lean on the Lord Jesus and I know that He will not misguide me.

Isa 41:10  Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Isa 40:28-31  Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.  (29)  He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.  (30)  Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:  (31)  But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Deu 33:27a  The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms:

Exo 15:2  The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

Jas 1:2-5  My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;  (3)  Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.  (4)  But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.  (5)  If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Isn’t that a comfort Christian? Wherever you need to meet with the Lord, do so. He is always available and always ready to listen. He also stands ready to guide you through His word.

Having this kind of relationship builds a hope in Jesus within me. I know that He is my hiding place, my resting place, my Rock, and my deliverer during tough times. Where is my hope? It’s in Jesus Christ the Solid Rock! I love this hymn! It expresses today’s verse quite well, don’t you think? Enjoy 🙂

On Christ the Solid Rock

  1. My hope is built on nothing less
    Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
    I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
    But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
    • Refrain:
      On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
      All other ground is sinking sand,
      All other ground is sinking sand.
  2. When darkness veils His lovely face,
    I rest on His unchanging grace;
    In every high and stormy gale,
    My anchor holds within the veil.
  3. His oath, His covenant, His blood
    Support me in the whelming flood;
    When all around my soul gives way,
    He then is all my hope and stay.
  4. When He shall come with trumpet sound,
    Oh, may I then in Him be found;
    Dressed in His righteousness alone,
    Faultless to stand before the throne.

  2. I’m so thankful that our God dispenses His grace and mercy freely, Vicky! He blessed the two of us – together, yet separately, we came to Him in desperate need for His love and tenderness during our difficult and trying times. Pleases know that you are loved and I am praying for you!! <3 Kate
