~1 Corinthians 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

I have been writing devotionals for quite some time now. In those years, I’ve discovered that the arguments I get are mostly from intellects. They quote from philosophical writers, church fathers, books on traditions, catechisms, etc. Rarely, however, do they quote from the Scriptures.

God has written all that we need for salvation within the pages of His Holy Word. It is our source of spiritual life, if you will. When Christ was in the world and being tempted by the devil, He said:

~Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

God, Himself, instructed us to turn to His Word when we are under attack – undergoing temptations, trials, etc. God, in the flesh, used this method and, therefore, would know exactly what His children need. If Christ needed it, all the more should we!

Those caught in philosophy like to complicate the simplicity of the Scriptures. The Word is a guide and leads us down the path to Christ. Philosophers love to make it complicated so man will look at them in awe as though they are the only ones who can understand spiritual matters. Then you have those who try to combine science and philosophy to distract the lost with palm reading, ghost hunting, etc. These are smokescreens and distractions which lead the lost into more darkness. The Word of God sheds light and opens our eyes.

What is so simple? God loves, God provides, Christ came, Christ died, Christ arose, Christ lives! It is all about Jesus Christ and not about us. It is all about what Christ did for us and what we cannot do for ourselves. Plain and simple.

~John 3:16-19 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

Therefore, it is not Christ who condemns us. It is the one who chooses not to believe that Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven that condemns himself!

~John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

There is no other way to Heaven. It is not for man to decide the many ways to Heaven. It is, however, for man to accept that God is the one who provides salvation, not man. Therefore, man has to accept God’s way, not his own. God says that Christ is the only way. The devil would have man to be distracted from the beautiful simplicity of the Gospel. It’s easy to understand why there are hundreds of religions and belief systems in the world!

“We are not called to proclaim philosophy and metaphysics, but the simple gospel.”
Charles Haddon Spurgeon
