Psalm 119:50 (KJV) This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy ...

This is my comfort in my affliction; for Jesus hath quickened me. When we are grieving, in distress, sick or experiencing great difficulty in our lives, Jesus is always the answer. There have been many trials and tribulations in my life where I was in a pit of despair. There is no truer verse than this one.

My husband has Crohn’s disease and at the beginning of the journey, he was fading quickly. I saw a healthy man taken down by this ugly illness. He became a mere shell of a man, frail and weakened. I would sit in my rocking chair, listening to Godly music so I could stay focused, and would look out at God’s creation from my window. I prayed the words to the song “Great is Thy Faithfulness” so many times. The Lord helped me to pull through. I felt as though He was carrying me when I couldn’t go on any further!

Noah Webster defines the word “quicken” as:

  1. Made alive; revived; vivified; reinvigorated.

As I sat crying over my husband’s rapidly declining health, the Lord Jesus quickened my spirit. He revived and reinvigorated me in my faith! He gave me hope and encouragement. He let me know that I was not alone and that He was right there with me, as well as with John. My eyes were focused on Him through prayer, praising Him for His creation, and leaving my fears at His feet. I learned what David learned:

1 Sam 30:6  And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God

Granted, John was still sick and my problem was still very much real. But the Lord touched me and helped me over this despair. This is how a parent is with a child. The parent comforts that child so his fears depart; and this is what Jesus did, and still does, for me!

Thank you, Lord!
