Word of God – Day 14 – Eternality

(Ps 119:160) Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.

How beautiful the words of the Psalmist are! Not only does he state it in verse 160, but he proclaims the Word’s eternality several times more:

(Ps 119:144) The righteousness of thy testimonies is everlasting: give me understanding, and I shall live.

(Ps 119:152) Concerning thy testimonies, I have known of old that thou hast founded them for ever.

(Ps 105:8 ) He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.

(Ps 119:89) LAMED. For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

(Isa 40:8 ) The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

(1 Pet 1:23) Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

(1 Pet 1:25) But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. (emphasis mine)

No matter what man may say, God’s Word is true and it has, does, and willcontinue to abide forever! Over and over it is repeated in the Bible that God’s Word is eternal. With this much repetition, it stands to reason that He would preserve His Word throughout the ages without corruption. I have been attacked by catholics saying that we do not have the preserved Word of God in today’s language because it was corrupted by man. Furthermore, their defense has been that King James was a homosexual and that the King James Bible is filled with error. All this coming from the faithful catholics whose doctrines come from the pits of hell itself and they don’t even know it! The devil would love nothing more than to side track man and keep man from the very Word of God that is able to save their souls! I know this sounds harsh, but just looking at the catholic catechism (which most won’t even take the time to research) will reveal these heresies!

It does not take rocket science to understand why the catholic church believes that only its leaders can correctly interpret the Word of God! The catholic church wants its members to stay in the dark and believe whatever it teaches. It isn’t the richest church in the world for no reason. Christ had no where to lay his head. The Apostles did not wear rich robes nor did they live a comfortable life. No, in fact, they were martyred for the preaching of the Gospel. But the leaders of the catholic church are decorated in rich clothing, their churches filled with gold, yet people are going hungry all around them. If the catholic church had the power of Christ here on earth, they would not be hording their riches but using those riches for the glory of God. There is no sadder state of affairs than that of the catholic church. They are rich in wealth but poor spiritually. (Mar 8:36) For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

Man’s heart is wicked and nothing good comes from it. We cannot trust the heart of man but we surely can trust the Word of God. (Jer 17:9) The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Man’s words are false, but God’s word is true.
God’s word has been true from the beginning of time – from the moment it was first “spoken” by Jesus Christ (John 1:1) through all eternity. The word “for ever” means without beginning or end. I know that it is hard for man to imagine this because our minds are so finite. But God is infinite and we need to wrap our brains around that.

Not only is He infinite, but He never changes. (Heb 13:8 ) Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. (Heb 13:9) Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.I find it interesting that immediately following the verse about the infinity of Jesus Christ, the Word says not to be carried about with strange doctrines! That speaks volumes to me! It is the strange doctrines of man (including those of the catholic church, Islam, mormonism, and all other cults) that pervert the Word of God. Search these things out for yourselves and compare what you find with the Word of God!

So what can we depend on? We can depend on the steadfastness of God because He is infinite. He is from the beginning – He is eternal – His Word is sure – His Word is forever – His Word is righteous and holy! My friend, this is all we have to count on in this world. The world is wicked beyond measure and every man is in need of salvation. Why would you trust the words of men when the Word says that all men are wicked and have sinned?

(Jer 2:29) Wherefore will ye plead with me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith the LORD.

(Rom 3:23) For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

(Rom 5:12) Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Why can you not believe that God is Perfect and, therefore, He is able to give you His Word without error? It takes more “faith” to believe in the doctrines of men than it does to simply believe that God’s Word has been preserved and is final. It’s like the “Theory of Evolution” – it takes more “faith” to believe that everything evolved from a “big bang” than it does to believe in a Creator. After all, ask yourself this: “Who/what brought about the bang?” It just didn’t happen! Someone/something had to make it happen.

The Word of God never changes. His demands for salvation are the same today as they were in the past. The blood of a spotless lamb was required of the Jews and was fulfilled through the perfect, sinless life of Jesus Christ and His shed blood. The Jews’ sacrifice was done with the view of an upcoming Messiah. Our sacrifice (the born-again Christian) was complete in Jesus Christ. There is no need to sacrifice Him afresh every day. In fact, the Word says (Heb 6:4) For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, (Heb 6:5) And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, (Heb 6:6) If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. What does the catholic church do with these verses?

“In this divine sacrifice which is celebrated in the Mass, the same Christ who offered himself once in a bloody manner on the altar of the cross is contained and is offered in an unbloody manner.” Pg. 344, #1367

“When the Church celebrates the Eucharist, she commemorates Christ’s Passover, and it is made present. As often as the sacrifice of the Cross by which Christ our Pasch has been sacrificed is celebrated on the altar, the work of our redemption is carried out.” Pg. 343, #1364

As the Council of Trent says, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church repeats:

“. . . by the consecration of the bread and wine there takes place a change of the whole substance of the bread into the substance of the body of Christ our Lord and of the whole substance of the wine into the substance of his blood. This change the holy Catholic Church has fittingly and properly called transubstantiation.” Trent pronounces an anathema against those who deny transubstantiation.

I wrote all this to say that if man teaches something contrary to what the Word of God states (which is eternal and never changing), what do you do? Do you believe God or man? It’s a simple deduction, my friend. What will you choose today? Do you actually believe that you won’t be held accountable by God for believing in the distortions of His Word? You will be held accountable for what you believe and what you have applied as truth in your life. (Ps 10:13) Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it. God will require accountability from you. In fact, He tells us to study His Word so that we are approved unto Him! (2 Tim 2:15) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Tim 2:16) But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. If we are to study the Bible to be approved unto God (not the catholic church, not Joseph Smith, etc.), then why do you believe what the church has taught and not what God has taught? It is to the Lord God of Glory, the Almighty God, that we are accountable to.

Where does one draw the line when it comes to false doctrine? How much arsenic does it take to kill a person? Will you allow yourself to be filled with the perversions of mankind or will you stand strong in God’s Word and let it cleanse you and teach you?

(Ps 119:165) Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. Are you offended by what I have written today? I hope that you are! I hope that I have stirred you up so much so that you will study the matter out for yourself. Even if you start out to prove me wrong, just dig in the Bible for yourself! Don’t assume that what you have been taught is correct. Don’t assume that because you are a member of the largest church in the world makes you right. Judge yourself according to the Word of God, the True Measuring Stick! (1 Cor 10:14) Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry. (1 Cor 10:15) I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.

Word of God – Day 9 – Despising the Word

Luray Caverns (Pro 13:13) Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded. When I read that God’s Word is forever and never to fail, I think of His creation and the stability some of it has. For example, Mount Everest stands tall and seemingly appears to be eternal because of its grandeur.

I also look at stalagtites and stalagmites as a good example of God’s Word. The initial Word is the same but we, spiritually, continue to grow as we read and apply the Word to our hearts. Conviction, meditation, and application are how the Holy Spirit uses the Word to grow us to be more Christ-like.

The Word of God is ever lasting. It was in the beginning according to (Joh 1:1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Today’s Proverb is a simple Proverb but one that is packed with punch. There is no misintepreting this verse! You can try, but God will have His say in the matter. Let’s look at a couple of definitions from Noah Webster:

DESPISE, .v.t.

1. To contemn; to scorn; to disdain; to have the lowest opinion of.

Fools despise wisdom and instruction. Prov 1.

Else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Mat 6.

2. To abhor.

and

FEAR, n. [See the Verb.]

6. In scripture, fear is used to express a filial or a slavish passion. In good men, the fear of God is a holy awe or reverence of God and his laws, which springs from a just view and real love of the divine character, leading the subjects of it to hate and shun every thing that can offend such a holy being, and inclining them to aim at perfect obedience. This is filial fear.

I will put my fear in their hearts. Jer 32.

Slavish fear is the effect or consequence of guilt; it is the painful apprehension of merited punishment. Rom 8.

The love of God casteth out fear. 1 John 4.

7. The worship of God.

I will teach you the fear of the Lord. Psa 34.

8. The law and word of God.

The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever. Psa 19.

9. Reverence; respect; due regard.

Render to all their dues; fear to whom fear. Rom 13.

How could a person hate the word with such passion as described in Noah Webster’s definition? This person disdains the Word. This is the epitome of hatred. How can one hate the Word in such a way that God’s wrath would be upon him? I truly believe that the answer can be found in the second half of that Proverb: “but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.” When one fears God’s Word, he has such a love for it that it changes him. This part of Noah’s definition blessed me totally: “In good men, the fear of God is a holy awe or reverence of God and his laws, which springs from a just view and real love of the divine character, leading the subjects of it to hate and shun every thing that can offend such a holy being, and inclining them to aim at perfect obedience. This is filial fear”.

Therefore, the one who loves God to the point that he keeps his commandments (His Word), will be rewarded. How can we totally keep His Word? If anything, God has taught us through the Old Testament that we cannot keep the entire law without sinning. If the Ten Commandments taught us anything, it was that we could not keep the whole law on our own. That is why Christ had to come. When we are born again, we are a new creation – having the Holy Spirit of God residing within us, teaching us all things. It is this Holy Spirit and His teaching that separates us from the unsaved. God’s law is imprinted on our hearts and through our Bibles we commit it to memory. We also imprint it on our hearts when we meditate on it and grow from it. (Col 3:16) Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

(Eze 36:26) A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. (Eze 36:27) And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. (emphasis mine) God has promised that He will put His Spirit in our hearts and it is because of His Spirit (who glorifies Christ, the Word) that we are able to walk in God’s statutes and keep His judgments and do as He commands because the Spirit will convict us. We cannot do it on our own or else Christ would not have needed to shed His precious blood! That is the whole purpose of His coming.

Is is any wonder that Jesus said, (Mat 5:8 ) Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. We cannot be pure on our own because our sins are putred in God’s eyes. (Isa 64:6) But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. Therefore, the unsaved despise God’s Holy Word by denying that Christ alone can save. (Pro 19:16) He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die. Again, the unsaved despises God’s commandment. And, yet again, one cannot enter Heaven’s gates without the shed blood of Jesus Christ alone covering those sins. (1 Th 4:7) For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. We cannot be holy on our own, but only through the righteous blood of the Lamb of God!

So, are you despising the Word by denying its reliability? Are despising the Word by saying that it cannot be found in its original writings today? Are you despising the Word by simply just denying that it exists. Do you even care? If not, you are despising the Word. Are you despising the Word by adding to it with traditions? Does your church say that there is more to salvation in Jesus Christ than His blood’s atonement alone? Or does your church say that you must be baptized to be saved; or you must go to purgatory after you die then you can enter Heaven? In saying such things, you are despising the Word of God. You are adding to it – adding to the simple plan of salvation. The Passover of the Old Testament did not have anything added to it but the blood of a lamb shed and painted over the door posts. Christ’s blood has been painted on the door post of our hearts when we accept Him as our Saviour. It is this salvation that brings a new heart – a new life – a changed life. You can “live the religious life” all you want. But can you truly say that you “live” the following verses?

(2Co 5:17) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

(2Co 5:18 ) And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

(2Co 5:19) To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

(2Co 5:20) Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

(2Co 5:21) For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

The new creature (the born again believer), is reconciled to God (verse 18 ) and our sins are no longer on our account but onto Christ (verse 19)! Why would purgatory be necessary if our sins are on Christ’s account? Purgatory’s doctrine can only support the theory that the sins of the sinner are on his own account and, therefore, must be purged. Yes, the unbeliever’s sins are most surely on his own account because he has not trusted in the One true way to Heaven – through Jesus Christ alone.

The born again Christian has the righteousness of God within him – the Father sees the Son’s righteousness covering us – a beautiful depiction of the first Passover! Christ’s blood over us causes the Father’s judgment to pass over us. Not just for a moment or a time, but for eternity. Nothing more – nothing less! Don’t despise God’s Word – He loves us and, therefore, has left His Word with us so we would not have to be like the blind leading the blind. Run to it – turn to it – read it in faith and God will speak to you through it.

Word of God – Day 8 – His Word

(Mat 14:26-31) And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. (26) But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. (27) And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. (28 ) And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. (29) But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. (30) And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? (31) (Joh 4:14) But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

God’s Word has become so important to me it is like breathing air – without it I would die. When we learn to encourage our spirit in God’s Word, we get a valuable gift from God. Our Heavenly Father not only provides us with complete encouragement but He gives us even more than that. Along with the encouragement, He sticks in there peace and hope. All this can be found by anyone who desires to dig for it. The Bible does not open its pages on its own. But just as it took action for Peter to get out of the ship to walk toward the Lord, it takes action on our part to open the Word of God. Peter began to sink once his eyes focused on the storm about him instead of fixing them on the Lord. The storms of life can be beating against us, but if we focus our eyes on the Word and what the Lord has to say to us, we will not sink.

I love the fact that Jesus chose this setting to teach a lesson. Twice, the Lord used a storm at sea to minister to His disciples. Once here and then again when He was asleep and the disciples were afraid and Christ calmed the storm. Jesus Christ, the Word of God, stands ready to calm our storms and stretch forth His hand within the pages of our Bible to settle our hearts. It is through the Word of God that we get a drink from the Source that will never run dry! When I meditated on this, the Lord impressed upon my heart that I am revived each day because it is His Words that revive me!

God not only encourages my spirit and revives me for the day, but He also teaches me:

(1) That He will do what says He will do – (2 Ch 6:10) The LORD therefore hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD God of Israel. (Psa 147:15) He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly. (Psa 147:18 ) He sendeth out his word, and melteth them: he causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow.

(2) To praise Him and trust in His Word without fear of what anyone can do to me – (Psa 56:4) In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. (Psa 56:10) In God will I praise his word: in the LORD will I praise his word.

(3) That He will heal me as I read His Word. Each time I turn to the Word with a broken spirit or heavy heart, the Lord heals me. (Psa 107:20) He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. (Pro 3:5-6) Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. (5) In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (6) (Mat 11:28 ) Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

(4) His Word will give me hope and I know that whatever I don’t understand, He will take care of it. (Psa 130:5) I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.

(5) That I can rest assured that He will show me His will through His Word. (Psa 147:19) He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel. (Mat 7:7) Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

(6) That He will judge those who are against me. (Isa 66:5) Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name’s sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.

(7) That I have the power of God to encourage myself at my fingertips each time I open the blessed pages of my Bible. Without the Scriptures, we will make mistakes. But when we read, understand, and apply the Word to our lives, we are able to change to more like Him. (Luk 4:32) And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power. (Mar 12:24) And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

There is more to daily Bible reading than just reading. God reveals Himself in each page, through each word and with each thought. He encourages the heavy hearted and the one who searches. Don’t take your Bible lightly. Within its pages are the power of God. This power goes untapped when one is too lazy to take time to be blessed of God. One cannot know Truth unless the Bible is read. You can rely on your church or what your priest or minister says but neither can do for you what God’s Holy Word can do for you. Man’s words have failed and man has changed his words from time to time. But God never changes and His Word stands firm for all eternity. (Luk 21:33) Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
