I can understand why homosexuals today are so much against the Christians because the Bible clearly states that their actions are sinful before a Holy God! They come in contact with a born-again Christian and they feel conviction in their hearts.  They get angry and defensive.  For some reason, however, this sin has a following who are loud and bent on pushing their sodomite agenda. 

What I cannot understand is how people who claim to be Christians can remain in this sin and be without conviction. I have personally led a woman to the Lord who was a sodomite. God changed her life and she never went back to that lifestyle. Today, she is married with four children and active in church. If she had been born that way, as the homosexual community claims, then how could she be changed in such a dramatic way?  The Bible says that one is born again, they are a new creature and old things are passed away and all things are made new! (2 Cor 5:17) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. What do people who call themselves Christians (yet they continue to live the same lifestyle and do not repent of their sin) do with this verse? They totally ignore the fact that the Word says that the Holy Spirit changes the born-again believer.  At conversion, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in the believer.  He now resides in the believer’s heart (now His temple).  He then convicts the believer of sin in his life and He chastises (disciplines) that believer when he does not repent of his sin. 

Who am I to speak out on this sin?  I am no one.  I am merely a child of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  He has commanded me to witness to others and to “go ye therefore into all the world.”  I am only a born-again Christian who loves the lost and wants to help those who are lost to find their way in Christ Jesus.  I don’t claim to be an expert but I do have the Word of God as my guide. I will attempt to address this sin in light of God’s Word.

Sin in general is made to look glamorous and appealing. Why do you think Las Vegas is referred to (by the world, I might add) as Sin City?  Sodomy is no exception. How do I know that?  Look at the life of Lot.  When Lot was given the chance to pick where he wanted to live, he fixed his eyes toward Sodom and saw how beautiful it was (Gen. 13:10).  Sin is the same way – but only for the moment. This sin starts with the eyes – it’s something you see, you think about it – you lust after it – you want it – then you go for it and take it.  Sin is sin, my friend.  The thief “sees” something he wants – he thinks about stealing it – he desires it more and more and then he steals it.  The cigarette smoker “sees” his cigarettes – he thinks about having another cigarette over and over again – he desires it more and more and then he caves in and has another.  The adulterer “sees” a woman and decides that he wants her – he thinks about her and nourishes that desire with more thoughts – he caves in and has an affair.  It all starts with the eyes just as it did for Lot.

Let’s look at that word for homosexuality – “sodomy.”  Sodomy comes from the word Sodom, which was a biblical city (Gen. 13:10).  Sodomy is still defined today as homosexual activities according to Merriam Webster. It stands to reason that if God destroyed two cities guilty of this sin, it would still be a sin today.  If not, God will need to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah for destroying them.  No other sin has ever been prevalent in a city which has caused the entire city to be destroyed forever. No other city has been destroyed forever for: lying, stealing, adultery, cursing, etc. But these two cities have been destroyed for homosexuality.

This sin is just as bad today as it was in Sodom’s day. Why? God does not change. (Heb 13:8) Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. and (Isa 3:9) The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.

Jesus’ stand on purity was very clear, even though the New Testament does not document any statements of Jesus specifically using the word homosexuality.  Actually, Jesus really didn’t need to.  It is stated in John 21:25 …there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one…even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. We cannot find any teachings of Jesus on incest or rape either but it is certain that He didn’t condone these sins. 

Jesus taught in the synagogues and He quoted Scripture after Scripture in His teachings. Since Jesus quoted after the Old Testament law, it stands to reason that He would support all the law and not just part of it. The Word says, Lev 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. and Lev 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them hath committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.  Jesus made it clear that marriage consisted of the union between a man and a woman in Matt. 19:4-6.  All other sex outside that of the grounds of marriage between a man and a woman is considered fornication and God condemns it.

Today’s homosexual community states that because the New Testament does not state the exact word homosexual, then it is not a sin.  I have heard this with my own ears so I know that this is one of the excuses used.  They say that because we are under a “new covenant” it does not matter.  But what does the Word really say?   There are laws that are eliminated in the New Testament, like eating meat given to idols.  However, there are some laws that Christ stressed were still very much a part of mankind.  Adultery and fornication were two of those laws.  Jesus said, Matt 5:17-18 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Romans states that this sin will bring consequences.  Rom 1:26-27 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of a woman, burned in their lust toward one another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. (emphasis mine)  Granted, the word homosexual  is not used here but the implication is quite clear – “men with men working that which is unseemly.”  What is referred to as “natural” here is between man and a woman as was created by God through Adam and Eve, as indicated in these verses.  However, the homosexual says that their “preference” is natural to them.  From the beginning it was not so, Jesus said.  Jesus always referred to the way He instituted marriage in the beginning.

The Scriptures in Leviticus (Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13) refer to homosexuality as an abomination. Webster defines abomination as:

worthy of or causing disgust or hatred.

The Word compares marriage between one man and one woman (including sexual relationship) as a picture of the Gospel of Christ. Christ is referred to as the “bridegroom” and the church (born-again believers) is referred to as the “bride.” The two will be joined at the “marriage supper of the Lamb.” Sodomy makes a mockery of this. All sin is putrid in the eyes of God. God compares sin to filthy rags (Is. 64:6) (1 Cor 6:9-10) Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. We know that fornication is any sex outside of the sanctity of marriage. But what does this word effeminate mean? Noah Webster defines it as:

EFFEM’INATE, a. [L. effoeminatus, from effoeminor, to grow or make womanish, from foemina, a woman. See Woman.]1. Having the qualities of the female sex; soft or delicate to an unmanly degree; tender; womanish; voluptuous.

The king, by his voluptuous life and mean marriage, became effeminate, and less sensible of honor.

2. Womanish; weak; resembling the practice or qualities of the sex; as an effeminate peace; an effeminate life.

3. Womanlike, tender, in a sense not reproachful.

EFFEM’INATE, v.t. To make womanish; to unman; to weaken; as to effeminate children.

EFFEM’INATE, v.i. To grow womanish or weak; to melt into weakness.

In a slothful peace courage will effeminate.

Homosexuality is included in the list of sins which will not go unpunished. Those who commit these sins will not inherit Heaven.
(1 Tim. 1:9-11) Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust. Again, the exact words sodomy or homosexual are not used but the term “them that defile themselves with mankind” is quite clear.

When witnessing to homosexuals, I was told that this was “my opinion” and “my interpretation.” This is just so that they can justify their sin in their own minds. God’s Word is quite clear. It is not rocket science and it is easy reading when one takes time to read it. Throughout the Old Testament, it is obvious that marriage is between one man and one woman. Christ preached from the Law in the synagogues and quoted from the Scriptures. He said that every letter of every word of the Scriptures would be fulfilled. (Mat 5:17) Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. (Mat 5:18) For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. He did not eliminate the Old Testament and its teachings from the lives of man in New Testament times. Loving God and being born-again strengthen what is taught in the Old Testament. For example, Christ said (Mat 22:37) Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. (Mat 22:38) This is the first and great commandment. (Mat 22:39) And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. (Mat 22:40) On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. When one loves God over anything in his life, he will love all of His Word. He will seek to please God in all areas. When one loves his neighbour as himself, he will fulfill the rest of the Ten Commandments because he won’t do any harm to his neighbour.

(Mat 15:19) For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: (Mat 15:20a) These are the things which defile a man:… It is the heart of man that is perverted. Sexual sin is a result of a sinful heart. It is as addicting as any other sin, such as lying, over eating, pornography, etc. But God is able to free the homosexual from his/her sin just He is able to free the one who is addicted to pornography. (1 Cor 10:13) There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. The only way a homosexual can be freed from this sin is to be truly and totally born-again. The Word says in 2 Cor. 5:17 that he will become a new creature. After salvation, the homosexual needs to stay away from those who will drag him back into this lifestyle. The young lady I led to the Lord witnessed to many of her former friends but she did not “hang” out with them. She knew that she would be weak and they would try to get her back into that lifestyle. That is the key to any sin or addiction – stay away from whatever situations or people who will draw you back into it.

Should we tolerate the homosexual agenda that is prevalent in our country? Absolutely not. This is not a difference here – this is absolute sin. We are to confront sin the same way Jesus did. After all, (Rom 5:6) For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. (Rom 5:8) But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Jesus confronted the woman at the well in John 4 because she had five husbands. He told her this was sin. He didn’t cover it up or sugar coat it. He pointed out her sin and she believed on Jesus and was saved. Jesus was a big proponent of pointing out sin in someone but lovingly leading the sinner to salvation. This is how we should handle speaking with anyone about the Lord. Differences in opinion should be tolerated, but sin should never. Jesus never tolerated sin. He confronted it – in love. So should we confront the sin of homosexuality. We’ve heard the phrase, “Love the sinner, hate the sin.” – well live it and apply it to your life!

If you are a homosexual, know that you are living in sin… period.  As the woman at the well had to admit that she had five husbands (which Jesus called sin), admit that you are a sinner in need of salvation.  Know that you cannot be born again and continue to live in this life style.  Jesus said that you must repent – which means to turn away from your sin.  Salvation is free to the unbeliever – it is a gift from God Himself.  He gave His Son, Jesus Christ.  Jesus died on a cross and gave His life as a perfect sacrifice and He paid your sin debt.  God requires payment, my friend.  Either you pay with your own life and eternity burning in hell, or you accept Jesus’ payment.  He died on that cross so He could pay the penalty for our sins.  One only has to accept Him as Saviour and repent from his wicked ways.  We all have to come to salvation the same way – whether it is the homosexual or the young wife.  We are all sinners.  If you are a homosexual who has just asked Jesus to save you, turn away from your life style.  Stay away from those friends who will drag you back.  Join a good Bible-believing church and get involved with Reformers’ Unanimous.  They have an excellent discipleship program focused on discipling the new believer and anyone who has any kind of addiction.  Let’s face it, we are all addicted to sin.  Not one of us can say that they do not sin, even after salvation.  Therefore, get in the Word of God and grow, allowing the Holy Spirit of God to change you.
