Is this picture too precious or what? What a beautiful depiction of the Lord’s mission on earth! It goes well with today’s name of Jesus – Carpenter!

~Mark 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

We can assume that Joseph taught Jesus the carpenter trade as a child. I can see Jesus playing beside Joseph’s workbench, can’t you? As He matured into a teenager, I can see Him working side-by-side with Joseph to earn a living for the family. Jesus used His carpentry skills in His teachings.

~Matthew 7:24-27 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: (24) And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. (25) And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: (26) And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. (27)

Notice that Jesus said whoever hears His words and heeds His words is building his faith upon the Rock. The Carpenter knows how to build a house and He also knows what type of foundation is best. Christ likened our faith in Him as one who builds his house upon a rock. That house is solid and is unshakable – even when the rains came, the floods came and the winds blew! Now that’s a solid house! When we liken this visual picture to our own spiritual lives, we must ask ourselves if our faith in Christ is as unshakeable. Are you certain of your faith? Are you certain that you are going to Heaven when you die? Are you certain beyond a shadow of a doubt? Be honest with yourself. The Word says,

~1 Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Jesus Christ is the Rock on which we must build our house of faith! As a catholic, I build my faith on the catholic church. I had always been taught that Peter is this rock. However, this is contrary to many Scriptures. When the Scriptures contradict a religious belief, one must make a decision for one’s self. Do I believe God’s Holy Word or do I believe what I have been taught by my religious leaders?

Our Carpenter, Jesus Christ, longs to help us build our house of faith, my friend. He longs for us to build it upon Him.

~John 5:39-40 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. (39) And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. (40)

Won’t you search the Word of God and learn from the Great Carpenter how to build your house of faith upon the Rock?

~Matthew 11:28-30 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. ( 28 ) Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. (29) For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (30)

Christ’s salvation does not involve burdens. I had a heavy burden of sin upon my shoulders as a catholic. The catholic church never removed my heavy burden. But the day I truly met the Carpenter, He took that burden completely away. With no exaggeration, I felt a hundred pounds lighter the moment I accepted Christ as my Saviour according to the Scriptures. I repented of my sins and changed direction in my life. It was at this point that I began to build my house of faith upon the Rock as my Carpenter taught me in His Word! Praise the God of Glory and Mercy!

  1. Thank you so much Kat for posting this wonderful devotional…..what a blessing to my heart!!

    1 John 4:9-10
“In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

  2. Amen and amen, Vicky!!!

  3. I have been having doubts about my salvation and now concerned about my soul, how do i know when it is time to be saved. i have heard people’s testimony how God was working on them for years before salvation like
Charles Spurgeon and many others. salvaton is of the lord. does God call your name when its time to be saved? Please pray for me i, I am so happy for you i want to know the Lord Jesus more than anything.

  4. Pamela,

I’m sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I was out of town for a few days. Thank you for sharing your heart!

You asked if God calls your name. Just the fact that you are asking about this tells me that God is calling your name right now. The Bible says,

~2 Corinthians 6:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

Just the fact that you are questioning your salvation tells me that the Holy Spirit is working on your heart.

    Please read the following verses:

~John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Jesus said that you must be born again. This does not mean baptism. It means your life changes – it becomes new!

~Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Repentance does not mean just being sorry for sinning. Everyone who has been caught doing something wrong is sorry. But the one who truly repents no longer continues to do the same sin over and over. Repentance means you have a change of heart toward your sin and you no longer want to live that way.

Many people will tell you that you cannot know for sure in your life time that you can go to Heaven. But God’s Word says otherwise:

~1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

God loves us so much! He knew that we were sinners and no amount of playing “religion” on our part would gain us access to Heaven. He pitied us and sent us the perfect sacrifice, His own Son!

~John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

There is nothing we have to do to earn Heaven. There is nothing we have to clean up or “live up to” before we can accept Christ as our Saviour. God showed us His love and He died for us while we were sinners!

~Roman 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Everyone who breaks the law in our country must pay the price, right? It is no different for breaking any of the Ten Commandments. We must pay the price for our sins!

~Roman 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

But praise the Lord that Jesus Christ paid that price for us. He took on Himself all of the wages of our sin – all of the penalties onto Himself!

    ~Roman 10:8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

All these verses are telling you, Pamela, how to be saved. The Word of God is very close to you right now and is building that little mustard seed of faith that is in your heart and causing you to ask questions. Don’t quench the Holy Spirit’s still small voice as He is calling you.

What must you do, Pamela? The Word says:

~Roman 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

If you believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, He came to earth, was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross to pay the penalty of all mankind’s sin, rose from the dead, arose into Heaven and now sits at the Father’s right hand – then the Word says you SHALL be saved (not might be saved – but SHALL be saved)!

~Roman 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

When you believe all this with your heart, Pamela, you need to confess it with your mouth.

~Roman 10:11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

Therefore, if you believe this, then go to a good fundamental Bible-believing church and tell the Pastor that you believe this. Make it public. He will probably ask you to walk down the aisle during the invitation so that you can make it public.

~Roman 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Again, the Lord reassures us that if we call upon His name, we SHALL be saved! Not maybe – not probably – but SHALL be saved!

So what must you do? Some people believe that you should pray a “salvation prayer” but I have yet to find that in the Bible. But prayer to your Heavenly Father is always good! So thank Him for His Son and the work that He did on the cross so you could be saved! Glorify Him in your body by repenting from your sins and turning away from them. If you were a liar, lie no more. If you were a thief, steal no more, etc.

~Roman 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

After salvation, build your faith by reading the Bible. I use a King James Bible because it is the oldest English Bible and it has not been changed into modern translations, which have lost many verses or changed the meanings. Read your Bible every single day as much as you can. Once you are saved, you receive the Holy Spirit and He lives within you. He will teach you what you should know from the Word!

Please write to me again if you have been born again because of this! I would love to disciple you and help you to grow in Christ!

God bless you, Pamela, as you search for the Lord. I am happy to pray for you!
