The Psalmist wrote that he was a stranger in the earth. I don’t believe that God wants us to be a stranger to the beauty of this world. I believe this goes deeper – as in not being friends with the sin of this world.

James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

When we have a love of sin more than a love of God, we are guilty of being a friend of the world. The world lives in darkness but the believer has the light of the living God in our hearts, amen?

So where is Christ in today’s verse: I am a stranger in the earth, hide not Jesus from me!

We cannot be a born again believer and yet be friends with the world, Christian. After salvation, we grow in the Lord through the reading of the word of God and hearing the preaching. The worldliness that is left within us at salvation should dissipate over time. Therefore, we cannot come to salvation without Jesus Christ. He is the Author of our faith, my friend! Once we receive Christ as Saviour, we are ready to give up the unrighteousness of this world. If we are not willing to give up the world, there is something wrong with our profession of faith.

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
