What a wonderful name this is indeed! This verse is packed with names for Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. However, the name “Almighty” is the today’s focus. Strong’s defines this word as: G3841
From G3956 and G2904; the all ruling, that is, God (as absolute and universal sovereign): – Almighty, Omnipotent.

Noah Webster also defines it as: Possessing all power; omnipotent; being of unlimited might; being of boundless sufficiency; appropriately applied to the Supreme Being. The Omnipotent God.

Webster states that Jesus possesses all power and has unlimited might and being of boundless sufficiency! In other words, there are no boundaries (no limits) to the Lord’s sufficiency. Sufficiency in what? The Jews offered spotless lambs as sacrifices to cover their sin. But those sacrifices were not enough. Only Christ’s shed blood was sufficient – only Christ could have completed this impossible task of dying on the cross and becoming the all-sufficient sacrifice for our sins. No human being ever lived nor could live a sinless life. There are verses in both Old and New Testaments that show us that there is not one human being that is sinless:

Ecc 7:20  For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not. Psa 14:1  To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. Psa 14:3  They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Rom 3:10  As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: Rom 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

If man could in fact be perfect and sinless, why in the world would Jesus leave His throne in Heaven to die and become the sacrifice for our sin? Eph. 2:8-9 says: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boastDo you see this? Let these two verses sink in for a moment. If man could in fact work his way to Heaven just by being good, then man could boast (be prideful) of his accomplishment. No sin can be present before an Almighty God. This same Almighty God created man to fellowship with him. He created man perfect and gave Adam and Eve the beautiful Garden of Eden to live in. God walked in the Garden and had fellowship with them. But God’s perfect creation also had a will of their own – they were not robots. They chose to sin and that fellowship and closeness with God was severed and they were ultimately exiled from that beautiful Garden. From that point on, man has tried to work his way to Heaven and it is an effort in futility.

It took a perfect Almighty God to take on human form, to be brutally scourged and nailed to a cross, to die and become the living sacrifice for every single sin of the world. It took an Almighty God to be so compassionate and loving to know that man could not do this on his own. Because of this, our Saviour and King has given every man an opportunity to accept His perfect sacrifice as the only way to Heaven.

Is it any wonder that Jesus is called Almighty? Could anyone do such an act of love for all mankind? Rom 5:7  For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
Rom 5:8  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Only an Almighty God could do such a thing! Thank You, Lord Jesus! You are the Almighty! You are the perfect gift sent by a loving Father who knew that we could not save ourselves. What a compassionate and loving Father we have!

This same Jesus will come back as the Almighty King of Kings at the end of the Tribulation and every knee shall bow before Him. Isa 45:23  I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. Rom 14:11  For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. Php 2:10  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

Don’t make the mistake of underestimating God. Don’t trivialize His power and ability. He is not some insignificant statue on a mantel in your home. He is Lord of Lord and King of Kings. Deu 10:17  For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward: Psa 136:3  O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for his mercy endureth for ever. 1 Tim 6:15  Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; Rev 17:14  These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful. Rev 19:16  And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

Our Almighty God, Jesus Christ, deserves our praise, honour and thanks for what He has done for us. Let’s glorify Him in our words and through our actions for there is no other like Him! Act 4:12  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
