Today’s Ponderings – Broken Promises

~2 Samuel 22:31-34 [As for] God, his way [is] perfect; the word of the LORD [is] tried: he [is] a buckler to all them that trust in him. 32 For who [is] God, save the LORD? and who [is] a rock, save our God? 33 God [is] my strength [and] power: and he maketh my way perfect. 34 He maketh my feet like hinds’ [feet]: and setteth me upon my high places.

Have you ever made a promise and had to break it for some reason? Even if the circumstances were beyond your control, you could not keep the commitment you had made.  You felt horrible, didn’t you? But you are not alone … there are broken promises every day in all walks of life. We are human and, therefore, over commit ourselves. That’s the root of most promises being broken.

But praise the Lord that God never breaks promises!  He cannot over commit Himself  His ways are perfect, according to today’s text! His word has been tried and proven – it has been found filled with promises that will all come true! As if that’s not enough, God is a solid rock – an immovable rock – He cannot be shaken. How appropriate to have the unshakeable One as our strength and power? His promises are not mere words but are tried and true!

What an example we have to follow! Although we have broken our promises to others, we can start over and make another attempt. But with God, there are no other attempts because His promises have never failed! We are promised eternal life with Him and what a glorious reward it is for the child of the King!!
