What Does God’s Word Do For Us?

God’s Word saves us from eternal life in the Lake of Fire:

~1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

God’s Word increases our faith:

~Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

God’s Word cleanses us as we mature in Christ.  By this, I mean that His Word challenges us to live more righteously with each passing day:

~John 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

God’s Word sanctifies us for His use. Through His Word, we are cleansed and regenerated by being born again. Christ’s righteousness now covers us and all the Father sees is His precious Son’s righteousness over us. That is the only way we can be found holy and without blemish because we are all sinners (Romans 3:10) in need of salvation.

~Ephesians 5:26-7 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

God’s Word is so important! It is necessary for salvation. It is necessary for the believer to grow more Christ like. It is necessary to encourage the believer as he walks on his journey! Thank You, Lord, for Your Word!!!

God’s Word is Here Today

Deu 30:10  If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.
Deu 30:11  For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off.
Deu 30:12  It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
Deu 30:13  Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?
Deu 30:14  But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.

~Deuteronomy 30:10-14  If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.   For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off.   It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?  Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?   But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.

God’s Word has been given to us to read.  It has been in written form for thousands of years.  To say that today’s Bible is outdated or has been corrupted is to say that God is not able to preserve His Words.  That puts limitations on God and we all know that God has no limitations.  God’s Word is final – settled both here and in Heaven.  His Word is true from the beginning of time and will continue to be true forever!

~Psalm 119:89  LAMED. For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

~Psalm 119:160  Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.
It would be cruel for the Father to leave us to our own devices when our hearts are so wicked.  Instead, He has left us with the Bible to teach us through His Holy Spirit and to bring to knowledge the wonderful plan of salvation that the Father, through Christ, has provided for us!
~Jeremiah 17:9-10  The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?  I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
The Word of God leads us to salvation and teaches us all about Jesus Christ and His ministry.  His Holy Spirit guides us and feeds us through the everlasting Word of God.

Freedom

~John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Only the Son, Jesus Christ, can set us free what the bondage of sin! Only the Son, Jesus Christ, can set us free from eternal damnation in hell. Only the Son, Jesus Christ, has paid the price for our penalty of sin! No one else! There are not many roads to Heaven, my friend. The Word says that Christ is the only way.

~Acts 4:10-12 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

There is no salvation in Buddah, none in Allah, none in good works, and none in being a member of any particular church! There is not other way to Heaven but by Jesus Christ. One cannot save himself by doing good works. Your good deeds will NEVER outweigh your sin on justice’s scales? Why? Because even ONE sin will keep you from entering Heaven.

~Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.

Death, both spiritual and physical, come to us because of one sin. We ALL have sinned, therefore, we all will go to Hell unless we are born again (John 3:3). It is only Jesus Christ’s blood that cleanses us from sin at the time of salvation – not Buddah’s, not Allah’s, not your own good deeds.

~1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Do not be deceived! Do not let man carry you away with their words. Use the brain that God has given to you and search His Word and learn the truth about salvation!

~John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Joh 8:32  And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Living Life

~Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

Just how important is God’s Word in our lives? If we take Luke’s passage, it seems that it must be very important because Luke says that we should live by every word of God. Who would know better than a physician like Luke? People today trust their doctors and follow their instructions impeccably. Why won’t they trust the Creator of the Universe’s words? It stands to reason that our all knowing God would know what to teach us, how to guide us down the paths of life, correct?

Let’s allow the Bible to speak to us today. The Word has been in written form for thousands of years. Scrolls and parchments were kept and preserved through the generations. Just reading the history of what Scribes had to go through to copy the Torah, one sees how it is not by chance and mistakes were not made in the Bible’s preservation. God spoke and man wrote down what the Holy Spirit told man to write.

Here’s what God’s own Word has to say about His words:

~1 Samuel 9:27 And as they were going down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servant pass on before us, (and he passed on,) but stand thou still a while, that I may shew thee the word of God.

~1 Kings 12:22 But the word of God came unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

~1 Chronicles 17:3 And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,

~Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

~Mark 7:13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

~Luke 3:2 Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.

Luke 5:1 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,

~Luke 8:11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

~Luke 8:21 And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.

~Luke 11:28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

~John 10:35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

~Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

~2 Corinthians 2:17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

~2 Corinthians 4:2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

~Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

~1 Thessalonians 2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

~Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

~Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

~1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

~1 John 2:14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

~Revelation 19:13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

Jesus Christ came to earth to speak His Word to us and to teach us about His Father’s great love. His Holy Spirit lives with believers and teaches us from the words that He moved men to pen. The Word of God has power to transform lives if we allow the Spirit to change us.

Those who do not believe that the Bible is God’s own Word miss out on one of the most wonderful experiences Christians have on a daily basis! It amazes me still to this day that I can ask God a question and He gives me an answer in His Word! His Word is living – it never changes – it is eternal.

How to Worship God

There are different opinions on how one can worship God. Some worship God only if they are in a church “building.” Others worship God by kneeling and praying. Even yet more worship Him by singing or through the actions of their deeds. While all of these are good, one must not neglect what the root of true worship really is. Let’s go to God’s Word to see what He says:

~John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

There are two steps to worshiping God:

  1. Worship Him in spirit
  2. Worship Him in truth

To be able to worship God in spirit, one must have the Holy Spirit residing within him. How can we have the Holy Spirit residing within us? Jesus said that we must be born again.

~John 3:5-6 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Once one is born again of water and of the spirit, one receives the Holy Spirit. The water does not reflect baptism here. The water reflects the water of life, the Word of God. God gives us the Holy Spirit at the time we acknowledge our sinful nature to Him and become born again – with a new attitude toward sin.

~2 Timothy 1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

~Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

~Luke 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Our Heavenly Father desires that we worship Him in spirit and in truth. The only truth we can count on is from Him. God left us His Word, the Bible, to read and learn exactly what the truth is. People today are distracted by man’s words and cannot worship God in truth.

~John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

~John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

~John 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

~1 Thessalonians 2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

One can only worship God if one is born again! It is at this point that we sealed with the Spirit of Truth, the Holy Spirit, who testifies of Jesus Christ and gives us understanding of His Word through the bible. There is no other way to worship God. Any efforts to worship God in any other way are futile.

Seek the Lord

~Isaiah 55:6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

~Deuteronomy 4:29 But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

~Hosea 10:12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.

~Acts 17:27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

The average “religious” person today believes that whatever he is doing is probably enough to get him into Heaven. However, I can think of no more poignant question to ask one’s self to turn that “probably” into “assurance.”

Do I truly seek after God?

Answering this question with all honesty will reveal whether you are sure of where you will spend eternity. If your answer is that you seek after the things of God, then you still do not have assurance.

~Luke 13:25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:

~Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Christ’s precious Holy Spirit stands knocking at your heart’s door so that He may enter in and save you from the wrath to come, which is life everlasting in the Lake of Fire. Don’t be counted with those who will be cast there:

~Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

~Matthew 25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Only the righteous can enter Heaven. Our own righteousness is filthy before God. Christ alone can provide us with His own righteousness so that we may be found worthy to enter eternal life with the Father.

~Romans 3:22-23 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.

~Acts 16:31a And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.
